Hag,
For Bass try the Boss Heavy Metal or Hyper Metal Pedals. They're absolutely shit on guitar but amazing on Bass. It has a Bass and Treble controls which are seriously useful to stop the arse falling out of the sound when you switch it on. Most distortion pedals are designed to distort around the midrange causing the bass end to drop off. They're cheap too.
Delay wise there's nothing to come close to the Line 6 delay pedal. It has tape delays, stereo delays, multitap, lofi etc etc.
It also has a loop sampler that can record up to 18 seconds which you can overlay with more stuff. you can also tune the sampler part down an octave and/or play it backwards.
The difference between distortion and overdrive is:
Overdrive is when the the preamp distorts when the signal peaks go past a certain threshold. Distortion is when the preamp distorts all the time.
But intrinsically they're both the same thing.
