Well I think Peggy was the master of Lancaster Dodd. I'm not sure she was the orchestrator of everything though.
The most resonant line in the movie for me was the one at the end, to paraphrase:
"If you find a way to get through this life without having a master, then let the rest of us know".
I actually got a draft of the original screenplay that leaked a couple of years ago, I'm gonna read through it tonight maybe to see what the differences are.
