I just heard that all the pool tables are being taken out of the palace and its to be turned into a bar/nightclub.

Its the end of an era.

That's a shame. Not that I actually played pool much there but it did foster the kind of ambience where you could say "oh, I was in the Palace after the gig. Yeah, just relaxing. So and So from Such and Such was there. She's really skinny."

Nightclubs are shit.

The best thing about that place was how it wasn't a nightclub. If they're going to start ramming up the volume and packing the place then it loses its appeal.

Seems like a bit of an odd decision. I mean, the upstairs used to be a (shite) pub/club and I can only presume it wasn't too well or they wouldn't have turned it into a pool hall in the first place. So what's changed that it would be a good idea to convert it back into a club now?? Ah I dunno. It'll be a shame to see it go anyway.

is downstairs not already a shitty club? i always enjoyed walking in through the throngs of vomiting, under-dressed teens hanging around the lobby and then enjoying the peaceful calm that comes down the stairs to envelope you as you ascend. it was a bit odd to have a huge place like that in the middle of the city where you could go in late any night of the week and get a seat with hardly anyone else in the place. this is a tragedy.
