Minor Pleasures (1 Viewer)

My cousin’s and a friend performed The Smashing Pumpkins “Tonight, Tonight” and Bonnie Prince Billy “Beast for Thee” at our wedding. My cousin couldn’t quite figure out the guitar so I ended up getting Matt Sweeney himself to teach it to him over the internet.

i have mentioned here before that i was the photographer at a friend's wedding in the unitarian church, where judith ring and jurgen from the jimmy cake were performing the music.
i asked my friend beforehand what was the main song for the ceremony and she told me it was 'wild horses' but in my head i heard that as 'crazy horses' and just did a mental shrug, thinking 'each to their own'.

Today I went out for lunch with my office. There are only five in our department and I was told it was a mid year thing before they are off at various times over summer and they do it again at Christmas.

It was a very long lunch, in my head I was like… are we even going back to work? Finally the bill came and I got out my wallet to pay my share and I was told no. The lunch was to celebrate my wedding and they got me a card with a OneForAll voucher. It was really sweet of them since I’ve only been there six months. It nearly made me cry.

I have never had a pleasant work environment, usually they’ve been a bunch of pretentious pricks.

Where I work any "0" birthdays, weddings and other stuff are celebrated with a suggested but not compulsory whiparound and a huge lunch where everyone brings in something. The board chips in too for any collections so it can be a tidy enough sum.
For other birthdays you bring in your own cake ( or biscuits or whatever you want) so no one is forgotten

Harsh but fair.

Years ago when I was a little Clerical Officer newbie I went for lunch with work (4 of us plus big boss), when it came to dessert time the waitress asked me first so I ordered ice cream, and every other cunt said no thanks. I was by far the lowest ranking member of the team.

Had to absolutely rifle through three scoops of freezing cold ice cream when it eventually arrived.

You must have looked very surprised.

That’s great to hear because I thought I was going mad this week when one of our staff got married and I suggested that we buy him a One4All voucher from the office. Everyone just broke eye contact and mumbled something about just getting a card for him. I ended up buying him a voucher on my own because I felt it would be really shitty for no one to acknowledge it. And for context, someone else is leaving and they have done a whip around at the same time as this and all went out for drinks last night.

There was a (not completely) wheelchair bound person on the train today.
Quite chatty, I learned that she's staying in a hotel near me, but was all bamboozled and flummoxed by travelling by public transport through that big fancy London, in a chair.
Not the same thing obvs, but I had my big heavy toolbox with me, so I do appreciate step free access.

Anyway, turns out she's from Norfolk and campaigned for the guy who unseated Liz Truss in that there election. That's a 26,000+ turnaround in cold hard counted votes, but let's not get into that again.

Walked her to her hotel as she was lost. Lovely chat.

Went out for a colleague's retirement on Friday. Lovely Thai scran then 3 pubs. Walked home a 1am.

low points: Ending up in a "nite club bar". Hell on earth. Leaving at 1am to feel a few dots of rain only to be SOAKED TO THE SKIN by the time I got home (about 8 minutes).

Yeah. What a result 26,000 swing must be some kind of record.
When Truss's votes were announced at count you would have expected a big cheer from her rival's supporters but only response was Trussites saying "aaawww.."

What did they did think?
I never listened to the whole thing until I was well into my 20's. Not even their best record. Jello is a hypocrite.
It’s not a bad start for a 6 year old :)

He liked it - he was bopping with a smile on his face along while playing with his Lego - key quotes included

‘It’s crazier than thin Lizzy’
‘Did he just use the f word?’
‘Why does he want to kill the poor?’
