Minor Pleasures (2 Viewers)

Ah thats great news, congrats!

On my end, I'm finally through a 2 month hell period where I was busy with working 60 hours a week, planning an exhibition, doing my own artwork for an exhibition, travelling, and doing a college course. Spoiler alert: I cried a lot and slept very little. BUT IT'S DONE.

climbed the sugarloaf today

speaking of Dutch cycling:
I extremely highly recommend watching the last few km
of today's AMSTEL GOLD RACE
(Holland's best bike race a one day classic in the Limburg Ardennes near Maastricht).
MAJOR pleasure watching this.

poor highlights package from Eurosport (only 3:58 long) but all i can find
Declan Quigley and Sean Kelly commentate.

the last 1.2 km but gives winner's name in in clip title.
most of this clip is the aftermath of the race.
watch other clip first. no commentary either.

wonder what the women's race was like ?

also i agree the problem is places like Dublin aren't set up for
cycling. people should blame terrible infrastructure not the
poor cyclists whose lives are risk.

I think the thing most striking to us was, nevermind amsterdam, or utrecht or the built up cities, we were out in the middle of nowhere in the sticks and there was infrastructure for cycling, walking and wheel-chairing. I got passed out by an elderly man with one leg and an adapted bike in the sand dunes. people with grey hair were out and about and enjoying the few days heat. there was a lad in one of the villages in a hand pedalled wheel bike cycling down the main street of a town. We covered a lot of ground (220kms) and the only place in the whole country we couldn't go on a bike was the pedestrian area in amsterdam and the gravel path in the campsite. The whole country is accessible to those on foot and bikes. Gonna have a look at those clips later. we made our own mini two-person peleton for a big stretch in the wetlands as it was nothing but headwinds.

yeah, Holland is full of cycleways.
but to a bogger like me Dublin (especially) is a death trap.
very reluctant to cycle around urban areas in Ireland.

despite having millions of people commuting daily
not many Dutch people actually race bikes, i'm told.

the Amstel today wasn't very exciting until the closing stages
of the race but then it was stunning !

I know he has great pedigree, but I'm not buying it. He's 'too' good. He doesn't even have a protour contract yet, and he excels in multiple disciplines. I've never come across anything like him. Ridiculous.
