Minor complaints thread (5 Viewers)

Sitting in traffic at lights.
Lights went green.
Hit the accelerator.
Forgot I was in second gear.
Car stalled.
Refused to re-start after three attempts.
Horns blaring.
Hazard lights died.
Other motorists becoming increasingly aggressive.
Panic.
Kind man got me started with jump leads.
Drove to Lidl.
Bought four packets of Crusti Croc Sour Cream and Cheese.
Car re-started ok.
Drove home.

Should I bring it to a garage?

I'd suggest changing the order you do things. If you buy the Crusti Croc before your car conks out then you can just sit back and enjoy them and just not care about everyone else getting mad and aggressive.

otherwise I think you did things just fine

gonna run the car now.

wonder could it be alternator or timing belt?

don't just run it, you'll need to drive around too. idling doesn't necessarily charge the battery. if it's timing belt there'll be a slight delay between hitting the accelerator and the engine responding. could be sparks plugs. maybe you flooded the engine. could also be transmission. i'm no mechanic by the way.

also, never panic. paying road tax entitles you to stall and sit there and if you get beeped, give em the finger - courtesy and goodwill to all.

eta: i guess strike through doesn't work

the ecu's on the more modern ones will push up the idle speed if the alternator is running the electrics. mine will idle at 800, or 1400 - 1700 if the battery is fucked. when i say modern, i'm talking about a 1999 here.

get you! (i thought the ecu was money.)

i had the hi-ace jumped then idling for 20 mins today but had to jump it again.

pretty sure this is nlgbbblbth anyway:

Some cars have a safty mechanism that cuts off for all electrics in the case of a crash so the sparks and she wont ignite spilling fuel like in the movies. In some cases i've heard it happening when the car is jolted suddenly (like cutting out). There is a reset type button you can press if this happens and that'll get you going again. In my car, as you face the bonnet looking in, it in the top right corner.

What car do you have?

In those situations I find it helps to quote Homer Simpson to yourself aloud "yes, yes, I'd be angry too".
