It's the Friday 80s Pop song thread (3 Viewers)

in early 1987 I heard this song maybe 3 times on Gerry Ryan's night time radio show.
finally found it this week on youtube after years of googling the lyrics got me nowhere.
it got to #64 in the UK charts.

These passed me by, never heard of them. They have an air of a band that should have been much more successful

A little bit Frankie,a little wham! A bit of Spandau ballet and a bunch of other stuff it's hard to pinpoint because there's so much

and maybe ABC circa When Smokey Sings (also 1987).
it sounds familiar despite being by a forgotten pop band who never got to make an LP.

anyway mystery solved/ I thought this was really good as an 11 y.o, and hadn't heard it since.
remember hearing Gerry Ryan playing Gary Moore's Friday On My Mind cover at the time too.
he just played music then at night with none of the silly talk radio stuff.

I noticed the hint of ABC too

They're almost like an AI creation, a little bit of everything but missing some elusive key element

Possibly overplayed, but I would die happy to write one timeless pop song like this

No verses, just the same chorus 4 times

true. but I kind of hate that one, but absolutely fair play to them

Wasnt this introduced in Ireland as the music on an ad for Power City?

I came across these while looking for something else. A bunch of ex Dexys Midnight Runners formed their own Dexys style band, incorporating a folk influence with the addition of the fiddle.
Kevin Rowland heard the demo and before you know it the world was given Come On Eileen.
Blue Ox Babes never really gained traction and split up.

Originally recorded by Lesley Gore in 1963.

Its a cool reworking.

There was a joke told by kids at the time with the punchline "it's my potty and I'll cry if I want to"

Hilarious times

Did not know it was a cover thread.

Also... everything about that was brilliant.

They also did a version of the locomotion. Not as good as it's my party...
