Heh. Herzog tried to bribe the natives to kill Kinski during the making of that movie.

I don't think that's true. The chief of the local tribe allegedly offered to kill Kinski but Herzog needed his star man. When Kinski stormed off the 'set' later on the director threatened to shoot him in the back three times and put a bullet in his own head. Herzog recounts this in the Heart Of Darkness documentary. Kinski's autobiography paints a different picture of course intimating that the cast and crew thought Herzog had gone insane and all threatened to quit unless Kinski calmed down his director. Both are shameless self-aggrandizers. Herzog would never let the 'truth' get in the way of his 'ecstatic truth'.

I wouldn't put it past him to have set-up the air rifle incident either. Priceless PR for Grizzly Man.
