remember them cocks two years ago who got busted for chart fixing, all the CDs bought in chart return stores on the same credit card in the space of a day or two

Yeah, that is right, but once the shops are chosen at random the scanner stays in that shop for a while. There was one in Plug'd in Cork for a while, god knows what stuff got wracked up there.

I know of at least one band that "encouraged" their album to #1 a few years ago by getting a bunch of 15 year olds to drive round the country buying a few copies in those shops with the scanners.

Obviously it’s all a big silly mess, but I was told the following are ideas worth checking out:
Release the same week as Kylie or someone big does a release.
That way all the people who actually go out and buy singles, whoever they are, will get the Kylie release, all the other pop stars sales will be down, and that will allow you to creep up the charts for that week.
You won’t get into the charts without buying copies of your own CD.
Also, there’s something about Nielsen ratings that I can’t remember. Look for trends or something.
