I have

black and decker mouse
black and decker random orbital 125mm
erbaur 300w oscillating tool with sanding triangle pad

The mouse is a really low powered sander and is ok for delicate stuff, which i really dont do a lot of.
The random orbital is the go-to at the minute, sometimes i gets put upsidedown in a clamp/workmate when i'm doing something small.
The erbaur is much more aggressive than the mouse and suits home decor more.

Overall the mouse is the least used one I have.
I did the whole floor here one weekend a few times between coats with the random orbital and mostly wished i'd bought a 150mm one.

If was buying again i'd probably be grand with a 150mm more powerful one and the erbaur for corners and details, but a lot of what i do these days involves an approach of wanting to yeet things. They both will leave little circular traces but i kinda dont care. Just finished refinishing this today, it was 95% the random orbital, and just small bits with the erbaur. the erbaur has no dust extraction nozzle, the black and decker does and I use it indoors with the hoover a lot, the mouse does too but it's a bit more of a pain to use with a hoover stuck to it.

and the finish shot (the floor under this is the one that was done too)

Nice work - that came up well

there's been a drip from the overflow pipe in the attic for months now, and i kept putting it on the long finger to deal with it, but it started getting worse a few days ago. got up into the attic, and just agitated it a bit, and seems it was just limescale buildup which i guess was preventing the valve from sealing closed properly.
well, that lasted about a week.
i have a problem now - the valve under the kitchen sink doesn't turn off the water to the house (which had been my assumption), just the sink - and i can't open the cover on the water meter to turn it off at the footpath.

do you have another valve under the stairs by any chance?

What’s stopping you opening the cover on the street? Need a specific key??

that's what i have in the street; the two allen bolts are not seized - in that they both will freely turn a degree or two but then just stop. as if there's some other locking mechanism holding them; i've not come across the like before.

I have, it’s just a latch like on a fuseboard cover or electrical box. Usually lefty loosey etc.

keys are in screwfix

have you tried hitting it really hard with a hammer, the allen's might be captive and it could be a thin layer of rust is all that's between you and getting soaked for the rest of the day

as mentioned - that's the problem, the bolts won't turn. they're 'loose' as in there's play in them, and there's just a degree or two of movement but then they simply stop moving; they don't feel like stuck bolts. and i've tried a little persuasion with a lump hammer.

trying to find a valve inside which might even just kill the feed to the attic tank is also fruitless so far. i've a suspicion it might be buried behind the bath.

Finally got one room ready to be reused. Joists levelled. Extra sockets installed, insulation in. Floor down, planed/sanded where needed and varnished. Her work Desk n ting is going in tomorrow. Bit of a rug and that's it for a while.
Underlay and engineered floorlads are bought but on the longest finger.
2025/6 there'll be new insulated walls and new windows

Got the other two rooms ready to be used. As well as both landings and small return landing aswell.
having a guest room again is great.
Also somewhere to put all our music gear to store and use aswell!

Ugh that sounds like hassle. Godspeed!
