HIDDEN HIVE

KISSING KIN 7’’ SERIES

Hidden Hive is very pleased to announce the launch of the ‘Kissing Kin’ singles club, a series of strictly limited edition 7’’ singles. This unique series brings together bands from different countries and matches them with upcoming and established music related artists. All pressed on glorious heavyweight vinyl, packaged in design mailers with wax seals – each release includes a limited edition print from the featured artist.

The line-up for the first five singles is as follows:

HiHi 701 – Tunng/Stars Like Fleas

Tunng

Hailing from East London, Tunng recently released their third opus 'Good Arrows' to critical acclaim in the UK and Europe and have now found a home in the US with Thrill Jockey. Here they offer up the wondrous 'The Raven Flies' - another slice of fully fledged (if experimentally skewed) pop that marries Beach Boys vocal trickery to their own inimitable style.

Stars Like Fleas

Stars Like Fleas, the ever-expanding Brooklyn maestros once described in the following glowing tones 'a sprawling mix of folk, Americana and free improv, the band can transform a dingy room into something as gorgeous and sweeping as the Great Plains'. Taking inspiration from their recently released LP 'The Ken Burns Effect' but moving forward into new territory, they deliver the mini epic 'End Times (for Elis Regina)’.
Art Print by Iker Spozio

Iker's beautiful Deco inspired stylings have graced the sleeves of artists on Leaf Records and Acuarela amongst others.

HiHi 702 – Marnie Stern/Cap Pas Cap

Marnie Stern

Marnie Stern has to be the single most original artist to arrive in 2007. Signed to the definitive Kill Rock Stars label and recently described as 'the world's first female axe hero', Ms Stern brought us the huge genre defying slice of rock and pop that is 'In Advance of the Broken Arm'. Here we bring you 'The Alchemist', a raw gem that splices Marnie's unique style with bubblegum pop to irresistible effect.

Cap Pas Cap

Cap Pas Cap released their debut EP on Skinny Wolves in 2007 with reviews that offered the following: 'Hints of bands like Bush Tetras, Pylon, early Sonic Youth and many more come to mind' - 'This is not the raw sound of punk, it's more dispassionate, the spark of something more literate and experimental'. On this split they offer 'Not Not Got Made' a radical retelling of 'Not Not' that featured on the EP.

Art Print by Chris Summerlin

Chris Summerlin, designer of striking posters under his Speeding Train guise, regular contributor of fine illustrations to Plan B Magazine and one third of the awesome power trio 'Lords'.

HiHi 703 – Essie Jain/Slowblow

Essie Jain

In 2007 Essie Jain an English exile now based in New York offered up the astonishing 'We Made This Ourselves' on Ba da Bing which has since been picked up by Leaf Records. Showcasing her magnificent voice amidst stripped and stark folk songs, 'Stop' is stunning; simply Essie's voice and a gentle arpeggio motif, and nothing more is needed.

Slowblow

The first cover to appear in the Kissing Kin series, an unlikely meeting between this Dire Straits tune and the marvellous Slowblow. Lead by Dagur Kari and Orri Jonsson, Slowblow hail from Iceland - they soundtracked (and Dagur also directed) the acclaimed art house film 'Noi Albinoi'. Their music was once aptly described as 'a sepia toned lullaby crackling from a vintage radio'.

Art Print by Jeremiah Maddock

A renowned Bay Area Artist whose unique art has featured on a series of projects with Stateside label Temporary Residence.

HiHi 704 - Silvarco/Le Loup

Silvarco

An undiscovered gem from the Welsh Mountains whose debut album will be released on Hidden Hive in 2008. Crossing dark folk sounds with beautiful layered harmonies, creaking banjos and inspired banks of guitars.
Presented here is 'Lack of Moral Fibre' - the first gentle salvo from this incredible band.

Le Loup

First found on Hardly Art (Sub Pop spin-off label) Le Loup released their beguiling debut album 'The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations Millennium' in late 2007. Featured here is 'To The Stars! To The Night', a lilting and harmonious refrain for banjo and vocals.

Art Print by Alison Dexter.

Alison teaches art and is a well published illustrator. She has been developing her wonderful collage work over the last couple of years out of her studio tucked away in rural North Wales.

HiHi 705 – Andrew Broder, Mark Ericson, Tim Glenn(on hiatus from Fog)/Jesu

Fog/Jesu

2007 saw the release of Fog's latest opus 'Ditherer' on Lex Records which featured a cast of star guests including Andrew Bird, Why? and Low whilst Jesu released the astonishing 'Conqueror' on Hydra Head Industries. Here they bring their combined talents together in the first collaborative work to feature in the Kissing Kin series.

Art Print by Wes Winship and Aaron Horkey

Two artists, whose amazing poster work through Burlesque Design of America is highly acclaimed and sought after.
