not sure if this is the place for this question, but here goes...

i bought some new speaker cable for my stereo. its good quality, heavy enough stuff. i was able to connect it to speakers no problem, but when it came to connecting it up to the back of the amp i had to thin out the wire to make it fit in the speaker clips. so my question is, have i just degraded my sound by thinning the speaker cable at the amp end?

ta.

how would that help?

No.

once of the biggest frights i ever received was when i cabled up my brand new amp and the damn thing switched itself off and flashing red lights. turned out a single strand of copper had shorted the speaker terminals.

thankfully, it has built in protection circuitry and the shutdown wasn't it blowing its intestines out.

it's the 'proper' contact i have a problem with. see: my centre speaker.

must fix that actually.

sounds like hard work. i'll probably just wire it properly... wiggling it about sorts it for the moment.

What comes out of your amp is a high amplitude (amplified) relatevely low bandwidth signal. Once the connection is tight, even if it's only a few strands of wire making contact, you shouldn't notice any real difference.
