they've left out the biggest town in ireland (accoring to the census took earlier this year), drogheda. now the govt are giving the pathethic excuse that this is due to the fact that drogheda is too close to dublin for the scheme. Now under the last govt. they have under funded drogheda when compared to dundalk asnd now with this hubs and gateway scheme, drogheda again will be the poor relative pof dundalk who will recieve alot more funding than drogheda for projects and things
now, i think the real reason for this is due to politics. louth elected 2 fianna fail td's in the last election. one from knockbridge (very near dundalk and ff parliamentary party chairman seamus kirk) and one from dundalk (the minister for communications dermot ahern). bot of which are situated in the north of the county. drogheda is in the south of the county. this is true.
the reason why drogheda has been left out of this scheme is becuase there is no drogheda td in the fianna fail party.
of the 4 klouth td's, 3 are in the north of the county and only 1 is in the south of the county and that td is fergus o'dowd (fine gael's spokesman for the gaeltacht i think)
