One of the current wrangles over the Lisbon treaty and getting it re-run is all about protecting some of Ireland's church-enforced right-wing laws, so I'd say Ireland would end up with the ability to opt out of things like this if they want to anyway. Which they probably will. Assuming the Lisbon treaty is going to be re-run. Which it probably will.
