“It’s distorted, Dutch, and sounds like Jim Morrison eating The Horrors.” – NME
“’OFG’ stands out not simply as the most impressive song on the album but one of the most danceable songs of the year…” – Drowned in Sound
“zZz sounds like Jim Morrison reincarnated as a Dutch club rat who took too much E and spent time recuperating in church.” – Spin Magazine
Dutch “dirt rock” duo zZz have been making music since 2001. Using just an old church organ and a simple drum-kit, Bjorn Ottenheim and Daan Schinkel make a remarkable mix of psychedelic electro wave, garage soul and dirty rock ‘n’ roll.
After seeing the duo’s notorious live performance, Excelsior Records released a 7” with the songs “Godspeed” and “Ecstasy.” The track “Ecstasy” recently featured in the soundtrack of the Dutch hit movie Phileine Zegt Sorry.
After the release of their debut album Sound of zZz in May 2005, Ottenheim and Schinkel toured the US and Europe and played major festivals like Glastonbury, SXSW, CMJ, Benicassim etc. They have also toured with Fatboy Slim, Juliette & The Licks, Jarvis Cocker, Franz Ferdinand, Comets on Fire and The Happy Mondays.
In July 2008 zZz released “Grip,” the first single from their latest album Running With The Beast (Anti Records). FIAT featured the track in their latest TV advert. The video for “Grip” was also recently awarded "Best International Music Video" at the Music Video Festival in Aix-en-Provence, France. Another album track “Lalala” was featured in CSI recently.
- For fans of LCD Soundsystem, Mars Volta, Death From Above 1979, TV on the Radio, Chicks on Speed, T.Raumschmiere.
