Genius is a terms that thrown about a bit to liberaly. But for me I really think Being John Malkovich is as close to genius as I've seen. Smart, Profound without rubbing it in, Brilliantly directed. The script should have won the oscar not american beauty. I haven't seen anything as clever since it came out..Adaptation was close.

the concept of "be kind rewind" is pretty deadly. i wonder will the actual film be any good.

but in relation to being john malkovich and any film ive seen which was written by charlie kaufman, theres definitely a conscious move to make original and interesting hollywood movies. or wes anderson or any of those kind of dudes.

although maybe its all genius so it doesn't count?

Blade Runner- far from perfect but its got "something"

12 Angry Men - although it is a stage to film adaptation so not original
Citizen Kane - amazing, a film that was very much ahead of its time in terms of cinematography and Orson Welles' genius is stamped on every second of it.

The New World is fantastic, completely blew me away.
I'd also nominate Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I was more confused than impressed when I saw it in the cinema, but repeated viewings have convinced me it's possibly the finest film of this decade so far.

I like it but can't convince anyone else to watch it once they hear Clooney is in it
