hello there!
i've been having a few problems with a home recording-i recorded a track with cubase and have eq'd it with both speakers (decent-ish pc ones mind) and some bass-heavy headphones, and it sounds fairly good.however, plug in the ipod headphones and it's nosebleed city treblewise-any ideas why?i know that ipod headphones-and most inears in general-are heavy on the treble but this keeps happening to me.

You have to develop trust in one monitoring source.
For example, Yamaha NS-10 monitors (which were originally Hi-Fi bookshelf speakers) can be found in nearly every studio in the world. They are not the nicest speakers to work on. They have very little bass and not a whole heap of high end. They sound very hard and brittle particularly on Rock music. But that doesn't stop them from being the most commonly used studio monitor in the world. The fact is that most engineers are familiar with their sound and therefore become a useful lowest common denominator.

Listen to music on your PC Speakers until you're realy familiar with them and you will develop trust in them. It doesn't matter that it sounds shit on ipod headphones because most music will give you a nosebleed with those earbuds.

The theory is that if other music sounds good on your PC and your mixes sound somewhere in the ballpark then forget about what it sounds like on other speakers/headphones. If you try and adapt a mix to suit every sound delivery system then you will never be forever chasing your tail because it's impossible.

Cheers man, thats much appreciated-i havent been recording that long so its been a case of hit and hope, although i managed to score some lovely mics so thats helping a bit.
