E-Book Reader (4 Viewers)

they're not colour though are they? would be cool to download a load of comics or classic playboys or summat.

I know people upload manga onto them (which are usually black and white anyway) but they take up a load of space so you need lots of spare memory cards.

When they're cheap enough in a couple of years they'll wipe out print for most applications. However print has certain advantages, no electricity needed etc. that will mean there'll always be some application that e-readers won't be used for. There's the issue of using electronics when planes take off and land but as soon as that's got rid of then they'll be unstoppable.

they're likely to go wifi at some point, so you could have your content on your home machine or in your email account. i think i'll wait for an affordable wifi one.

All this doesn't sit right with me (and I imagine most book lovers feel similarly). Like, would I be as inclined to read a decent book every day on the bus if I had access to lots of inane, constantly updating stuff in my e-book? I suppose people who have i-phones have that already. But I like the internet for what it is. I don't want to have access to it at all times. Nothing beats reading a nice, paper book (or manga).

That said a constantly updating magazine type application of all your interests would be suh-weet!

Nor with me. Most of my livelihood up to this point has been made with good ol' bukes. I don't think they'll die out completely. I would imagine with big launches there will be small prestige print runs for those who want the printed version. There's also those bespoke printer yokes that are coming online nowadays so fuck knows what state books will be in in a couple of decades. If the Ruskies invade western Europe and use their EM pulse weapons then it'll be back to block printing.

Porn (and Mein Kampf) reading are an obvious application for these things. Since I do most of my reading on the bus, on the rare occasion that I do decide to read some erotica my main criteria in the book that I pick is that it doesn't have a saucy cover, and that cuts out a lot of them. With e-books this wouldn't be a problem.

Still don't like 'em much though.

So, have people got theirs yet? Is it worth it? Are there still huge compatibility issues with different publishers or has the Kindle gone and become the iPod winner?

Do any of these devices read PDFs are are stuck to the format of that particular device?

i think they all read PDFs these days dont they? I think even the kindle has stopped doing that ridiculous thing whereby if you wanted to read a pdf you had to email it to amazon and pay them to transfer it wirelessly to your kindle.

im mad to get one again now. sony still seems like the most likely candidate (because i havent read too much about them). i dont want it to play mp3s or browse the web or any of that shit though, just display pirated books off torrent sites and the like. its terrible.

Cool - i've not read up on em since they first came out but be able to get 'pirated books off torrent sites' would be worth it..

Being able to read Comics would be better still.
