"No matter what the time signatures, melodies or changes were, nothing got in the way of her distinctive reading of the songs”

Irish Times
Following an award given by the prestigious Music Network, jazz vocalist and composer Dorothy Murphy, with her new ensemble Circleways, will play a national tour in anticipation of the release of her forthcoming album, Calling.

With her hypnotising, intense and enchanting voice, Dorothy has been at the forefront of vocal jazz in Ireland for some years, highly regarded as both an improvising musician and adventurous composer.

Dorothy has assembled a diverse group of musicians drawn from the forefront of Irish avant-garde, classical and jazz genres to perform work from Calling in Cork, Limerick, Waterford and Dublin during September 2007. Her compositions move from graceful, persuasive passages of light and shade with Claire Fitch’s stately cello and Cormac O’Brien’s expressive bass to more probing and passionate music with Sean Óg’s explorative soprano and bass clarinet. Phil MacMullan’s subtle drums complete this unorthodox quintet.
