DIY Guitar Messing About (11 Viewers)

that's looking lovely. what sort of finish are you aiming for?

I'm torn between a very light finish that will show off the grain, and something more along the likes of what I did for the one on the link, which will probably look pretty cool, but the grain/quilting will be somewhat less visible.
With the quilting and burly bits there's are one or two bad bits of tear out which I might have to fill, so a darker finish would be more forgiving. (also that wood tends to scorch quite easier, so one or two spots left on the sides)

I was going to say that piece you gave me could be a test piece. I don't think it has that sort of ripple in the grain though.

No that was a pillar piece and much thicker, what I’m working off of is was effectively high end 40mm countertop..
I might just go with the golden shellac un tinted as a middle ground.

The bottom section of the leg below is the same timber with the golden shellac on IMG_8793.jpeg

Every time i see the background of your workshop i want you to make something like this.

were the shed devoted purely to wood and woodworking I'd definitely go for something like that. I'd have to re-house the paint, plant pots and garden tools though.

my main problem is I never throw any off cuts away until I'm sure that they are truely useless...
hence the growing pile of tiny pieces of oddly shaped timber on the bench.

I break this 'rule' constantly - but i did at one point note matt cremona saying that realising his workspace was not for storage being a revelation he came to after a few years. If i took a photo of my workspace today it looks like i've just been searched by a drunk FBI team. but very slowly i'm trying to move the storage away from the workspaces.
A present the bench has 4 chainsaws on it, the floor has the extra mattress for the van and all the OSB cutoffs that i need to complete it, two little bits i'm making for the office, my lathe is storing toolboxes mostly and the above wood ship (it's on wheels so that what i call it, who knows why) is overflowing because i've been stashing for the van build and have to make a shed this week too.
I was working on the house stuff for a year and a half and used the car as a large toolbox, and i have that thing that if need to do something i just by the tools immediatley, so sorta doubled the amount of tools i have which used to all perfectly fit into the shop and now are all in constant motion.
It's more storage than shop now.
