Last month, I was having a bad day and destroyed about 4 years of diary entries. Despite the cringe factor and the absurd writing, I can't believe I took it out on my own history.

Almost feels as bad as texter's remorse...

AAAAAAggggghhh

seems like a perfect opportunity to start again with a new identity.

I did something similar 3 years ago. Burned the diaries I'd kept every year since I was 12 or 13. I regretted it for about 10 seconds and I haven't kept a diary since.

The letters I burned are a different story. I regret that every time I think about them, or any of the people who sent them. Dammit :(

I burned most of my paintings and sketch books in 2000. I never regretted it. Mmmm cathartic.

Plus it's practical not to have all that stuff taking up space.

John out of Stoat once smashed up his only guitar. He was alone at the time and I never really figured out why he did it. Presumably a mixture of pique at it going out of tune and drunkenness. He felt sorry afterwards, then bought a much better guitar, so it all turned out ok in the end

I have some diaries stashed someplace that I kept intermittently (with some long intervals where I wrote very regularly) between the ages of 13 and 23. Even thinking about them makes me cringe, I keep them to stop me getting Notions about myself

Do you all hate yourselves that much?

Do you all hate yourselves that much?

I wanted to leave my past behind. Only taking the results with me and not all the details.

Anyway, diaries can be dangerous in the wrong hands, thoughts and feelings about people change over time, but written down they can be taken out of context.
