Two of the loudest, most cerebral guitar-noise bands in the world perform together for the first time in Dublin.
DEERHUNTER
“A massive, psych-heavy, art-damaged five-piece, and one of the most inspired new bands we've heard in quite a while.” – Pitchfork
“Cryptograms is a tonal wash of brisk speed kicks and seasick comedowns, the kind of thing you could lose an afternoon to.” – Dusted Magazine
“Cryptograms’ unified, gorgeous, unpretentious originality shines like a beacon of hope in the ever dumbed down world of commercialized indie rock.” – Under the Radar
HEALTH
“My favourite band at the moment!” - Dan Deacon
“Think the bombastic pound of Boredoms, the skewed structures of Deerhoof, and the tribal thump of Liars….” - Pitchfork
“Just imagine the world reaching the end of its tri-millennial life-cycle and imploding again. Dark? Now just imagine rhythm. Primal, learning, glittering rhythm…” - Drowned in Sound
Deerhunter began in 2001 with the ambition of fusing the lulling hypnotic states induced by ambient and minimalist music with the klang and propulsion of garage rock. The band has weathered chaotic line-up changes, the death of a member, and much discouragement. Their live performances almost always leave audiences polarized. They are based in Atlanta, Georgia.
Cryptograms is the second full-length offering from Deerhunter, and their first for Kranky Records. The album took almost two years to finish and was the product of emotional, physical, and financial strain on the group. The result is an album that finds the band shifting from discordant catharsis, and forming a sonic identity that completely expresses the place from which they have arrived.
In 2007, the group released the Fluorescent Grey EP, which was recorded in July of 2006. This EP also garnered the title of "Best New Music" from Pitchfork.
Deerhunter’s third album is slated for later this year and will be titled Microcastle.

HEALTH’s brutal diversity is at the forefront of LA’s burgeoning experimental scene. Their self-titled debut finally saw the light of day in the in February via Lovepump United having already received accolades by Pitchfork and Drowned in Sound where the album was voted in the top ten albums of last year.
HEALTH recorded their debut in one of their favourite places, LA’s The Smell venue. An all ages music venue in downtown Los Angeles, it’s open and brick and dirty and dark, but when you sing a church hymnal or hit a drum as hard as you can the sound is beautiful. They did both of these things on their record. They also went out and found equipment born the same time as The Smell - mostly ribbon microphones designed by the BBC for radio broadcasts in the 1930's, things George Martin liked to use.
HEALTH have also had a hand in 8-bit glitch duo Crystal Castles' recent success. In addition to a Crystal Castles/HEALTH split 7", HEALTH remixed CC’s “Crimewave” which featured on the UK release of the single.
