dealing with metal bands (2 Viewers)

like i said in the first post, the bit about picking support bands is the bit that pissed me off most. that just sounded like complete rock star shit to me. Metal was always my first love so i'm not trying to put the whole scene down. Its just something that has been bothering me for the last couple of years and when i got that e-mail today i just lost it (not fair to the Putrefy lads... sorry) and posted it here and obviously there are some others who have a similiar view. It seems to be ok to slag of a staright edge hardcore bands from New York ot whatever but as soon as i mention something more local, people start saying it should'nt be posted.
Also (i'm starting to get bitchy now, but heh?) did anyone notice that "returning the favour " was never mentioned in any of the replies.
Bands can ask for whatever they want, but if you start asking for 1.5 k rig etc for a venue that holds 150 max in a town that you have never played, where no one has heard of you you need a wake up call. He knew himself he was sounding like a dick and apologised for it.

Ah, that explains why the bright sun-kissed skies of Northern Ireland have mysteriously been replaced with dark cloud-choked drizzling expanses of grey then.
......... nope, i really don't have anything witty to say to that, i think it was the use of the word EXPANSES (excellent use by the way) that put me off, any chance you could pretend i said something witty and/or vaguely intelligent and we can put this whole sordid affair to bed ?

Im not really clear how to take this one.

just like anyone who would let the fact that some metal band played a benefit gig once influence them is an idiot ...

Did he actually know how many people would fit in the venue?

Anyhow, 1.5k doesn't sound unreasonable for 150 people to me, especially given that people are prone to quote peak wattage rather than program wattage, thus making their PAs seem twice as powerful. 5 watts program power per person is a nice comfortable amount of volume (without wanting to get excessively nerdy and start talking about SPLs...).

I told him early on that there could be 5 to 150 people at the gig. In regards to the shitty PA remarks i made, i should have said ''small'' or ''basic''. If any of ye have ever been in Richardsons i think you'll agree that the PA's we use there are sufficient. I was never a fan of borders, but i guess i should have said ''overseas travelling'' bands instead of international bands. Anyway the point i was trying to make that if band X FROM Denmark insisted on picking and approving of the support band there would be uproar.

Thats the latest and last of it. Not gonna bother puttin em on.

''its alright,we use 1.5 k rigs,we hire them out,for us to have our sound
we
need a p.a. with volume as we have a soundman who gets us what we
need,maybe
u havent heard of putrefy etc, thats neither here nor there,i,ve played
many
many gigs and big ones for that whether be in ireland or overseas,we
dont
play gigs for nothing and without a decent p.a. at least, been let down
in
the past,i,m not saying thats the case with yourself, but we,ve arrived
at
gigs and theres been a 300 watt p.a. and we dont play without
triggers,i
book gigs myself and have been told the requirements by bands and being
in a
band who plays plenty of gigs i understand why they request it,and that
includes fees and backline, what size of p.a. do u use, could it cope
with the
sound we have, our sound is very heavy and pretty damn loud,if its over
700
watts it might work, anyway i,m not gonna argue about it,this is what
the
band requires for gigs,a decent p.a. at least and a fee for expenses as
it
does cost driving about and hiring transport, food and the rest,i didnt
mean
to sound like a dick with my last email but our soundman likes to have
a
p.a. he can work with or do his best with,on the desecration tour
recently
the p.a. was shite for 2 of the gigs in the venues and it showed on the
bands performances, really bad, couldnt cope with the triggers and
cabs,anyway
get back to me if your keen or not,and no offence meant with my last
email.

deeeeeeeeeeeeesperado.......

having had the misfortune of playing support to metal bands for 10+ years i can truly say that i am shocked at the deluded personalities these people have.......
what fuckin world do they live in????
although some are sound others have egos the size of small countries and for what???
the ability to play the same old cliched metal standards?????
having heard putrefy and played with them before i'd have to say you're not missing out......
just go home and put on cannibal corpse/your hairdryer........

Metal is the fucking best.
I wonder how much Fantomas are asking for and how big their rig is. Everyone will still go to see them. I'm not saying Dan *should* to put on the band, its up to him, but if people in general get upset when they see bands' demands and riders they should definitely boycott all big gigs. And sticking yr man's email address up for everyone to see is a bit harsh. I'll never forget the bitching about Converge and their guarantee a year or so ago... Isis would be no different and Jaysus, hasn't every cunt seen them now?

Edit: "But I'd never go see Fantomas/Converge/Isis"
If you're going to say something like this, bula bos. I'm talking about the hypocritical fuckers who won't cough up if something is considered punk but will go all out on a spend frenzy for metal.

fucksake oly people are entitled to as many standards as they like.

The room is rented in richardsons. Thats 50e. There is no in house p.a. it would have to be hired and a rig that size costs 100e to hire and then you have to get an engineer to work it so thats another 80e. Then you have posters and flyers which comes to to 30e. They want a garauntee of 200e so thats 480e in the red before anyone even pays in. Richardsons gigs get a crowd of 40-60 @ €5 a head which is 300e. So youve made a loss of €180. you cant charge any more than 5e really as people wont come. But the bottom line is, Fergus has a big problem with the aul decibal level on a normal night. There is no way you'd get a big rig in their! Requests like these just cant be met. if they think they are good as they say then why dont they book venues with an 2k in house p.a and engineer. it would make more sense.

fantomas fee and tech requirements:
enough money for two people to go on a luxury cruise for a year
they need a 24x30 ft stage
heres a picture of their drumkit

I wish I was in a big metal band
