Lower Deck.

(heh heh heh heh)

The poor aul Lower Deck. Last time I was unfortunate enough to end up there the unfortunate bar man was patrolling the outside ushering on these scruffily dressed youths who were imbibing their offo-bough beverages outside instead of going inside and spending their pennies on the selection of ales and stouts and enjoy the luxury of being able to drink inside out of he cold, rain and betracksuited scumbag attempting to extract hard earned student grant/ Trust Fund / dole money out of them in order for them to be able to afford that Fast and Furious box set up in Xtra Vision in the Swan Centre.

On an aside. Anyone ever attempted an upper decker in the lower deck?

Don't bring it in - the smell of sausage, rasher and egg could send the whole place crazy!

kp

Of course, How could I be so completely blind. In this age of hyper-sensitivity and the Uber Politically Correct Vegan Neogestapo on vigilant patrol, turning up with a sandwich stuffed with meat would probably have be outcast as some manner of Fred Phelpsesque pariah…. or worse

Well Enda Kenny looks like a Weasel and will reputedly be employing an security entourage consisting of militant, dungaree clad butch-lesbian PETA supporters.

For those interest in the left hand side of things...
Eamon Gilmore reports that he will at all times be situated behind a maze of intricate and cunning log-traps. Which might irk the tree-huggers, but promises to only use Irish grown trees sourced from eco-friendly managed forests, to build said traps and his tree-house village. He will also have a sharp stone attached to a stick with a bit of vine to protect himself should a would be assailant negotiate his schmorgas board of log traps.

Don't feel too sorry for them some German mates of mine were playing there a while ago and were thrown out by the owner for drinking cans before the bar opened. They were utterly confused and kept saying something along the lines of "but were the band, you can't seriously expect us to pay for beer" oh how we laughed.

as an aside, are all BYOB spaces automatically all-ages? or is there a lot of fuckin around with insurance to be done? and is there different rules for over-14s/over-16s etc etc???

Under 14's events require 1 chaperone for every 6 u14's to prevent any heavy petting going on. This normally involves a chaperone blowing a whistle and flashing a torch on and off very quickly at the offending couple until they stop.

cool great article by nay as always.

i think the shed is still going its called SHE-D now, there used to be gigs on at red space in the joy gallery not sure if that's still being used, same with monster truck, ormond studios and temple bar gallery and studios. there is also a place called basic space beside n.c.a.d

interesting insights on this article about byob in greystones here
http://www.culch.ie/2009/10/06/greystones-theatre-irelands-first-byob-venue/

key quote
"According to Alan Farrelly, the problem with being a licensed premises is that you are too restricted by regulation and law, getting rid of the license liberated the Theatre. Now with no license, people can bring their own alcohol, there is no closing time, so if the people want to hang around all night then great – people have somewhere to go thats affordable and they no longer have to meet in a friends house to drink."
