DAVID O’DOHERTY biography

David O’Doherty has been a full time comic since 1999, when he won Channel 4’s ‘So You’re Think You’re Funny’ award for his performance at The Edinburgh Fringe. Since then, his surrealist conversationalist style, quickfire wit and easy way with an audience has won him many friends. He was nominated for the coveted Perrier award in 2000. He has produced four one man shows since, and a two hander ‘Saddled’, the first theatrical production to feature live repair of audience member’s bicycles. He’s been partly adopted by the Dublin music scene, warming up for local artists like The Redneck Manifesto and David Kitt and being named Hot Press ‘Irish Comedian Of The Year’ in 2003. He has written a children’s book ( ‘Ronan Long Gets It Wrong’, Mammoth 2001) and quite a lot of stuff for radio and telly – including a series about bee detectives (The Bees Of Manulla’, RTE Radio 2003) and a weekly segment on a kid’s science show in the character of a bemused science teacher who is forced to teach physics through the medium of hip hop(‘Source’, 2004).He hosts a weekly music show on Irish radio. He has performed at festivals in Edinburgh, Montreal, New York, Melbourne, Adelaide, Prague, Kilkenny and Iceland. His ambition is to appear in a knitting pattern.
