made a brew yesterday. all good.

went back today. basically coffee not coming through to the pot/water not filtering through the coffee into top pot. after first fail made sure it was cleaned and unblocked, which it was. tried again. same coffeeless results. any idea whats going on. water filled up to within a few cm of release valve. on stove at medium heat, 4 of 6. coffee not too packed into the filter or anything??

Is your rubber gasket/seal in place and undamaged?
Are you using the same coffee as when you used it successfully?
My first instinct is that your coffee if ground too fine and even if you haven't tamped/packed your coffee too firmly, the pressure from the heated water can pack it tighter as it is on the stove.
Does the safety valve sputter and whistle as the water gets hot? Ie. is there pressure building in the pot or not?

If there is no pressure buildup , I would guess that there is a problem with the seal , either the rubber gasket or possibly cross threading
At the point where you screw on the top, or a non obvious crack somewhere ( although, I imagine it would leak obviously).

As I said, first thing I would do is try a courser grind - don't pack / tamp it down and leave room for it to expand.

I can't really think of anything else that I've ever encountered that may be causing this.
They are usually a fairly trouble free and nice piece of kit.

cheers for the help.
bought in a specialist shop. Got a couple of bags which they grinded for me so i would imagine how fine or coarse the coffee is shouldn't be the problem. They should know whats needed. seal i will double check but i checked earlier and was fine. Put water through it a while ago and went fine. Then tried with coffee again. Basically only got half a pots worth. Spouting out at a miserable rate over 3 or 4 mins. Same coffee i used when it worked fine. Yeah, last one i had years ago never had a bit of trouble. Pain in the hole!!

I use a french press or the jug with a plunger thing but i dont think it is considerd so clean ie you get allot of debris or stuff with it.
I nearly always buy a bag of ethiopian coffe from Aldi or at least it says its ethiopian on the packet. No idea what might be up with that DH i geuss you can bring it back to the shop if it doesnt work.

Dunderhead, that really does sound like the pot isn't sealed properly. When threading I usually turn the wrong way till it drops into the threads and then tighten (hope that you can understand that) to avoid it not threading properly, and then tighten well. Also, make sure the rubber seal is dry as it helps ensure a good seal.

If you don't get better success bring it back to the shop! I've one of those that is about 15 years old and still working perfectly, so you shouldn't be having problems like that after only one go.

just home from work and made a sweet pot. think the seal might have been problem/not tightening it enough

having said that, this thing is going back if it doesn't work properly consistently. a 'will it won't it brew' situation every time i want a coffee isn't an option

sound for help y'all...for now
