That Brian Deveraux seems like a nice enough chap
but his presentational skills are well, appalling.

Its like watching someone making a fake tv show
in their bedroom.

Yer wan Michelle Doherty, ok i suppose.
Just get the feeling that these people are into music
but i dont get a sense of passion.Bit like Simon Maher on phantom.

For a t.v station that is trying to appeal to a teen/20/30
something demographic, its a bit lifeless in terms of
its presentation.

And I wonder if anyone can answer this question; if
the state stipulates that Radio stations like Phantom
have to have x amount of hours of talking/news/fucking
sport!! Then how come channel 6 doesn't?

Just curious like, I know phantom has to do it but
its well bloody annoying.

If I wanted sport or chat i'd go elsewhere. It's a stupid
requirement of radio broadcasters set by down the state, some
bollox to do with community radio. bollox.

Hey this is my first ever post thread!! WOOP! HI 5!

I like nightshift on Channel 6. Is she REALLY into the music? I dunno.
I just wish there wasn't an ad break every 2 songs.

Fair play to Channel 6 for showing Irish bands, and their videos, RTE hardly do fuck all. And we pay a licence fee for their lack of interest in their own country's music scene.

I think the presenter Michelle is pretty good, seems to be into the tunes. What else does she have to do to prove she's worthy?

Fair play me arse, why settle for less? Like, not havin a go at
any of the presenters, but on its own (not being compared
to possibly one of the drabbest tv stations) its pretty
lame. Dayshift has zero energy, nightshift is ok.

It has a bit of a graveyard vibe to it as a station.

the boy's twin worked in channel six..Apparently they auditioned loads of people for the program and Brian Deveraux was working filing the tapes and auditioned and got the job..He still works filing like 3 days a week or something.

yep, works on a week on week of basis apparently. she's a sworn enemy of an air hostess i know.

Come on give us the gossip, what happened between Michelle and your friend? She looks, em, high on life or something...

I haven't seen much of it, but I get the sense it's similar to a lot of Irish music media, where you get the impression that people are a bit more into being 'in the know' about bands than any love of music. They may well love music, but when you're only meant to talk about the latest stuff as a neatly-packaged product, you can't really contextualise it within an overall love for music.

There's a growing category of music shows and mags and presenters, writers, etc, where it's 'all pulse, no heart'. Most people don't listen to music that way, where you play one new release after another; most people mix shit up a bit between genres, release dates, side-projects, one-off solo stuff, non-musical influences on music, etc. It's not necessarily that these people aren't into music, it's just that the job entails being into bands who have put stuff out in the last few months.

There won't be another John Peel anytime soon because of the way music shows are structured now, to minimise tangents that aren't going to encourage people to buy new releases.

Music without its historical and cultural context is always gonna look a bit lifeless.

because they started out as a digital station that geared towards the irish audience and didnt come under the remit of terrestrial viewing (ie an irish station that gets money from the licence fee - tg4, rte). but since there's been a change in the regulations regarding digital stations such as channel6 and the way the licence fee is distributed (no longer given to stations in the vain hope 10% of their output will be relevant to irish culture) whereby shows of irish cultural or educational merit are submitted to the broadcasting commission. So if their ideas are successful then you'll see more irish related stuff on their station.

as for news and sport again thats to do with being digital private channel they can choose to specialise whereas rte and tg4 and tv3 have an oenus as well as wishing to target that audience for viewing figures.

i think channel 6 music stuff is fairly lifeless because a)its no budget and b) its low budget.

to go and put in all the text below music videos with interesting titbits about bands etc costs time and money in the edit not to mention research, so its cheaper to record a live segment with a filing boy and an airhostess and drop that in between tracks.

what would be good is if the links were as interesting as that tv series vidz on channel 4 that reviewed well.. videos. they didnt pretend they were anything other than videoshop staff. have filing boy doing his links from the office space and airhostess from a mocked up cabin interior (i'm sure aerfindus would allow her to do the links on one of their planes)
