I noticed a mate of mine upped the gauge of strings on his strat and the bridge lifted significantly, fucking up the action. I have been told to tighten the 2 screws in the back holding the mount for the springs... Is this normal???

Yes and no. That might help a little but you might also have to tighten the truss rod a 1/4 or 1/2 turn due to the higher tension of the heavier strings.

Check out all these videos for a strat set up.

It'll definintely need a truss road adjustment and maybe a new nut cut? can't say for sure- would only know about basses meself.

He dropped it in for a service... I'v convinced him to drop to 10 gauge (i reckon he went from 9 - 11!!!) your man said he'd prob add the extra springs alright.

Cheers for the advice. I'll let you's know the outcome incase anyone one else gets the same problem
