My friends looking to buy a cello but he don't know squat about them.
Neither do i.
Anyone got any advice about good makes, 3/4 vs full-size, anything else one should know before purchasing one?

i bought one last month.
my advice:
unless the person is tiny then get full size.
dont go near waltons.
go to crehans. theyre just off griffith avenue. lovely lovely people. crehans.ie
they will need lessons..
starter cellos are 500 but theyre set up and have lovely strings on em.

he needs to listen to 'Cello' by Blink with the quickness

everything he needs to know is in that song. similarly
if you know anyone going to Nepal, simply turn them
on to Blink.

best guy i've found is james beatley, on manor street. he's a luthier and makes half- and 3/4-size violins, celli, etc. number in the book. you can call in to his living room (aka workshop) for a visit.

Hey I was looking at a yamaha and a AlfredSTINGL Cello on thomann, but im gonna check out that crehans place, i asked for a price list. What one did ya get by the way, wanna get something thats not gonna piss me off, easy to play and sounds nice. so ya reckon full size will do me? im not the tallest man!

eh i got their basic model which is the cheapest. theyre fully set-up and strung with lovely strings. i couldnt be happier. it sounds great, its loud and its not impossible to play.
when i was researching buying i was told NEVER to buy one from the net. cellos dont like flying. and they wont be set-up.
i would honestly say just call in and chat to them. thats what i did. except i walked out with a cello.

Crehans is incredible, they know and remember everyone. I got my cello there, and that plus a bow, carrier bag thingy and rosin for half nothing, given the standard of instrument.
