Hmm. They can't use your work (of any kind) without first seeking permission. The laws of copyright still apply.
They can usually get this from your publishing company. If you don't have a publishing company, they should try and contact you directly if they really want to use your song.
If they do use it without permission, sue them and get loads of cash from them.
Take Tom Waits as an example and see what can be done if someone tries to use your stuff without permission.

She would have been paid. Her accountant probably doesn't tell her every minuscule detail.
Or she possibly lied. But was more than likely mistaken. As you usually don't get paid till a good few months after the fact. It's very easy to "forget" if you play with them regularly.
