Been advised to not bother buying cables anymore but get into putting my own together. Apparently its a piece of piss and waaaay cheaper (they do cost a fortune ready made but I have no clue what the bits cost). So... anybody here given their dealer the heave ho and grown their own? How do you find it? What are the savings vs hassle?

i've always made my own, my dad did, so i grew up thinking it was the norm.

i get cut cable and parts from here:
http://www.redco.com

I use mogami balanced and unbalanced cable with neutrik and canare connectors.

you definitely save money, but it takes time and they say time is money!

takes a bit of practice, better to buy a good pre made cable than to have a badly soldered one.

You could get some cheap cable in maplin or use old stuff to practice on, before buying good parts.

i'll write up a few tips if you like.
