in the physics department in UCD the postgrads had access to lasers the undergrads weren't allowed near. i remember talk of them bringing one up on the roof, and the laser was visible on the poolbeg chimneys, which google maps tells me is over 4km away. i never witnessed this myself.

it was only years after that i copped that they may have been shining it into the approach path for dublin airport.
