Audio compression (1 Viewer)

Have to do an essay on the above,focusing on mp3,flac,ogg.atrac etc,Basically audio compression as a whole,If its having a detrimental effect on our hearing or the way music is perceived etc etc etc
Anyone know any good resources,online or otherwise?

Theres an excellent article on it here its about mastering in general but mainly compression). It gives a good overview.

I wouldnt check an engineering mag for an introduction unless its something like computer music or maybe even sound on sound which run introduction articles.

Class links guys thanks,Been meaning to look into that,Ill definately have to get that Bob Katz book.
I could have been a little bit clearer tho,Im looking for stuff on data compression, as in dividing into freq subbands with a filterbank,determining masking,and formatting the bitstream.
