Anyone ever play guitar/bass with a violin bow? (1 Viewer)

Saw a chap playing a double bass with a bow the other week and felt jealous. Anyways, now the band is working on a song that I reckon would sound alright with some bowed bass on it. Since I'm not going to splash out and get a double bass I was wondering what a bow would sound like on the normal electric. Anyone ever give this a go on guitar or bass? Reckon its worth wasting/not wasting my time on?

i bought a bow a while back and the shop keeper told me that it was mostly guitarists buying bows these days. it works grand but trying to play it in the usual way with rosin on the strings is a bit gammy

Yeah, the rosin ruins the strings and gets the fret board all sticky. Yuk!

In a previous band I was in called Settler I played bowed elec guitar on one of the albums we recorded. Sounded great!

on the bass you can only really use the top string or the bottom string to play melodies, the bow wont cut in to the middle two so well.
