I'm hoping to join or (preferably) start a band with good potential. I've had many many bad experiences with amateuristic morons and i'm hoping to put all that behind me! Do you like to play, as well as listen to, music in the style of Quiet Indie with slow build-up to a crescendo? Does the following mathemathical formula best describe your influences and where you want your own sound to lie?

Mogwai x Arcade Fire x Super Furry Animals x My Bloody Valentine = Where i want to be!

Well, today is your lucky day for you have just found a bassist proficient with all the standard skills, serious about what he does musically and not afraid to experiment with Bass effects! I'm 21 and I've been playing for nigh-on 5 years, some gigging experience but not as much as i should have, due to the afore-mentioned amateurism of others but i have been told i look like a natural onstage and i always had a bit of a buzz going out there, rather than a lot of nerves!
I hope to hear from people as serious about their music as i am... I'm just short on giving up on people in Dublin and eloping to London where i'm sure there are a lot more serious musicians! All e-mail to [email protected] please!

The fact that you're goin on about "the amateurism of others" doesn't really sound great. What's to say that, if you get a band here, you won't be goin around the internet bitching about them in a years time?
You shouldn't have mentioned it dude.

I'm just very bored and replying randomly to topics. Pay no attention. Carry on.....

Perhaps if you had the experiences i've had with bands around here you wouldnt be so judgemental... How about dropping 4 months and a lot of money, not to mention creative energy into a project, getting fed up that people cant get it together and get to gigging level, only to have those very people turn around suddenly and decide you're not right for their band? Think about it...

Not trying to be judgemental dude, its perfectly ok to be pissed off with your old band if you got good reason, which you seem to. Its just putting out an ad where you're really negative about stuff will make people tetchy, its not a good advertisement of yourself, if you know what I mean.

Ooooooooooooooooh! his got ya there Brian.

I think we should have a bass-off.

No he doesnt.

In not in any of the bands for my technichal ability.

Have you seen a picture of me?

Thats what sells records baby................

and for the record Im technichally amazing too.

ah now, wasn't casting any aspersions on you.

Still, I choose a mexican gunfight/royal rumble style bass off. Every able-fingered Thumper is invited to participate.

No effects though, lets keep it clean folks.

No effects, no dice! Creativity with effects can be just as important as creativity on the fretboard... Whats yer weapon of choice?

For the record, you didn't understand my post. It wasnt a single band that did that to me, it was several. If people cant identify a problem with your style and speak up about it, instead letting it get worse and worse (in their mind) until it gets to the point where all you get is "i dont think we have similar goals"... Well, those people should not be musicians... My point was i want honesty. If i belt out a bassline i want someone to say "thats shite!" rather than pretending to like it until they hate it so much that the song its in never sees the light of a recording studio. Understand?

is there any chance you could stop using the word thumper?

What word should I use? Its a good word don't you think?

Expect_delay: Honesty is the bees knees, I get ya.

Yo band dude-

You choose who you play with, how long you play with them, and whether or not you learn/take anything positive from your experiences, yes?

Allow me to read your palm: If you only take the negative and talk about negative, chances are you're going to attract other negative disgruntled musicians. None of you will take responsiblity and you'll all just blame each other for everything going wrong if it does. And it'll be a big dysfunctional mess. Again. And so on.

Sorry to be a pedant Expect_Delay but it's not technically right to say "building up to a crescendo". A crescendo is the gradual building up in volume. What you are implying is a build up to a build up. Which, unless you want to sound like the something off Tidy Trax, i'm guessing you didn't mean.

Sorry for sounding for a superior cunt, but you seem to aspire to greatness so i thought you'd appreciate it.

Of course! I never claimed to have an impressive vocabulary... I'm sure we all know what i meant, though. I appreciate your input.

aoifed, the thing about it is what you say is good in theory. I tried that for a while and like socialism, it just didnt work no matter how much we all wanted it to! The reason i put such a thing in my ad (and please nobody else make me need to explain this again) is i dont like wasting time on people who dream, plan, scheme, practice, dream, plan, scheme, practice, dream, plan, scheme, practice, die of old age with grand dreams plans and schemes and be well practiced! Does that make sense? Can i be forgiven for seeming so condescending?

y'know I don't think you quite got what I was saying. That's grand though.

I mean, after all, you do have a dancing chewbacca avatar. That's a good thing.

depressed Bassist
