For what its worth, I started off using Cubase and then onto ProTools. Protools seemed more intuitive than Cubase at the time...the sends in Cubase were odd. In saying that I could always do what I wanted in Cubase pretty quickly, and I'm sure its been refined a lot more since I last used it...

I got a pair of OKTAVIA-MK012s last year and am very happy with them...for their price, they're great for drum overheads and acoustic guitar.
