borrowing a 8-input audio interface (1 Viewer)

4.

have considered a submix on feeding in stereo to two of the track if needs be

There's a lot you can do to prep for 8 track with 4 track, like get half your mic placements sorted one week, and half the next if you are fitting this into rehearsal, or just go for broke on 4 track and then list what wasn't well documented..

I use GB also on an ancient macbook (2010 possibly) - i get on fine with it but it struggles on audio multi track at a certain point. the core design element of reaper is that it's wildly efficient in comparison to all DAW's and along with ardour is ideal for making an old machine a valid platform.

the minus with reaper is effects wise they largely dont give a fuck about making things look like old amps so it's sorta like moving from this

but i'll confidently open a 24-80 track mix on reaper on an old machine, while the same in garageband will turn it into a heat and noise generator.

Mixing in gb is a pain in the hole. The actual ‘console’ type controls in reaper alone could tempt me.
I actually preferred the older simpler version of gb, it was less attractive but easier to get under the hood in terms of settings etc

I haven’t felt this much peer pressure since I started smoking.

I’ve downloaded. Looks a lot more accessible than the last time I had a spin on it (bout 13 years ago) possibly my capabilities have improved in the interim too

Will lay down a few shits and giggles guitar/synth/Vox tracks over the weekend
