Coronavirus: Better Call Sol - CORONAMANIA (20 Viewers)

???

Did they not recommend this two weeks ago? Are they gonna recommend it again in two hours?

They asked for a three week lockdown, Government ignored. All the lockdown loonies (like me) said it'll go to shit and lead to a worse lockdown. And it has gone to shit, and they're asking for a six week lockdown.

Prob now is have the Government any credibility to say no? "Let's try Level 3.8 and a half, lads"

Fair!

Of course all the anti-lockdown loonies are saying level 3 is too much and it's the same as the flu and there's only more because we're testing more and are gonna be out protesting again tomorrow.

i had a weird virus about ten years ago which led to me having a CT scan because i was having deja vu episodes lasting up to ten minutes (at their longest).
anyway, went to the hermitage after the deja vu thing started to freak me out a bit.

the nurse who triaged me (an australian woman) had never heard of deja vu - she was fascinated by the idea but wrote it on the sheet as 'dezar vu' despite me spelling it for her.
when i was seen by the doctor, he asked me to describe my symptoms and actually got angry with me when i kept telling him i was having massive episodes of deja vu. 'don't tell me what you read on the internet, tell me what you experienced'.

he actually had trouble believing i knew what deja vu was, and assumed i had learned the term after googling my experience.

I have actually had to explain what cerebral palsy is to a few doctors. Mine is mild so I guess.

In future, I am just going to tell them to watch Special on netflix

The Da asked me would we mind not being in the kitchen sat night as their friends are coming over for dinner.

I went through him for a shortcut. then he said actually his mates mother has to get tested and she was in contact with his mate, so visit cancelled / never mind etc

I then explained that this is EXACTLY why it's not a good idea to have visitors. Had they found out after the visit we'd all have to get tested and that we are lucky to find out now. Delighted he tried to fob it off and accidentally actually proved my point for me

i'm kind of sorry we never bought those water cannons now
I have this troubling fantasy of somehow constructing a mechanical gun turret on the top of my building here. The gun, and we're talking a 50cal here, would be mounted on a swiveling frame thing, and have a camera.
Then when a car alarm goes off, or some cunt screams past the window at 4am in his shitbox Civic for the 4th time that night, the gun would automatically pick up the target. At that point I could simply open up my Gun Turret App on my phone, view whatever the gun is pointing at, tap the Fire button, and... blam.

At that point the turret would retract back into the roof of the building, keeping itself out of view.

Instead of reopening everything and jumping on planes for holidays and then inevitably closing everything down again in a couple of months time, is there anything to be said for having a proper lockdown until we've actually got rid of it and having proper quarantine procedures in place for inbound flights?
Yeah, didn't think so.

Sure why do that when we can just close for 2 months, open for 2 months, close for 2 months, open for 2 months...

their 'level 5' is a load of my hole.

Firstly, they brought in new restrictions from last night. 12 hours later they're proposing bringing in level 5 across the board.

The border counties account for a lot of what's gone wrong here in the past month. They are now on level 4 and we haven't given them even 1 day to see an impact.

Dublin went to level 3, 3 weeks ago. The rate of increase in cases slowed considerably. While still too high for comfort, it suggests the level 3 restrictions did have an impact.

The main source of spreading has been identified as households. We now have a nationwide ban on household visits. Again, what was the point of that if we weren't going to wait to see what the impact was?

Anyone who follows a lad called Conor on twitter will see some of the most granular analysis of daily numbers, broken down into all sorts of demographics and categories. He rightly points out the age group 19-24 as being disproportionately high, yet this has never been acknowledged, nor has anything been done (as far as I'm aware) to get to the root of what's going on in that age demographic, and try and fucking fix it.

The issue with meat factories and direct provision seems not to even be discussed anymore.

Schools will remain open.

We either need to go back to where we were in March, indefinitely. Or there's no fucking point.

As long as it's not that Fat Emperor guy who has pivoted from dietery advice to covid data conspiracies.

The deceleration in Dublin shows that people in Dublin have generally listened to the message being put across, limit contacts etc. Also the fact that Dublin went to level 3 and therefore all indoor pubs and restaurants stopped happening (mostly pubs of course) helps a lot.
I would think that the 19-24 age group is a particular problem because it's the exact age group that would have the hardest time not socialising in groups, plus bringing universities back would have encouraged this as well. I think people in this age group are probably much more likely to act on impulse regardless of what the rules say, they're just old enough to be adults and in control of their own life but still young enough to not really feel much responsibility generally.
Finally, the household spreading numbers are somewhat unreliable I feel. Not denying there is probably a lot of spreading from people just visiting each other's houses, but the virus has to get into houses in the first place, and surely a lot of that happens from schools and (pre level 3) pubs etc.; how many people diagnosed as 'household' were actually having a pint somewhere the week before and wouldn't admit it to the track and trace process? I'd imagine it might be something like 5/10 would admit it, the other half would say they don't know where they could have got it from.

I went for a pint in a pub about 3 or 4 weeks ago, just for the novelty of it. It sucked big time, being stuck in your area and everyone looking around nervously, dunno why anyone would be going out right now. This was during the day mind you, wouldn't chance it at night myself.

I went into a pub in Clare a few weeks ago. I had to eat, like. Anyway, I got a pint while I was waiting for food and it was so normal that it was a few minutes before I realized I hadn't had one for 6 months or whatever and isnt this nice. Then four young wans went to the next table and ordered a desert between them plus several jaegers each and within minutes all the young lads for miles around were gathering round so we had to request another table at the far end of the room and fret about them all evening.
The next night in a different place they asked us if we'd mind sitting near the bar in the snug instead of the restaurant as our table still wasn't free. The snug was much quieter so we said grand, no bar service allowed so what harm. Pricks kept coming to the bar and hanging around looking for service, and getting it eventually.
