Irish Times Best 50 Irish albums of all time (1 Viewer)

Great Irish albums not on that list:
Horslips The Táin
Mellow Candle Swaddling Songs
The Bothy Band Old Hag You Have Killed Me
The Virgin Prunes If I Die, I Die
Operating Theatre Rapid Eye Movements
The Jimmy Cake Dublin Gone, Everybody Dead (though you could put any of their albums there in its place)
Sea Dog Wizards of the Coast
David Kitt The Big Romance
Brian Conniffe/Suzanne Walsh/Diarmuid MacDiarmada self-titled
Drainland And So Our Troubles Began
Gemma Hayes Night on My Side
Decal Brightest Star

Does Nurse With Wound count given that he’s been living and working in Clare for about 30 years now?

Solid list. Some day I'll make an album worthy.

I was a big CDB fan when I was 12. Won tickets on the hotline to see him in the RDS and the gig blew my 12-year-old mind.

Then he put his mickey in the babysitter and I lost all respect.

Isn't he an actual Earl or something? I know he has some regal heritage. Not sure to what country's royal family. Argentina maybe, if they have one.

De Burgh is Chris' mothers name. the family are from Naas and are Norman descendants of William the Conqueror,
so the aristocrats are way back in history.
his West Brit / Anglo Irish cred is unquestioned though.

FWIW rock singer/actor Michael Des Barres is a Marquis of (i think) French descent.

Tower Records are doing some sort of staff top 30 irish albums on twitter

saw aphex twin on it. whats the line with Richard D? what are his grounds for being irish again? i know his Dad's from Limerick

He was born in Limerick. Not sure how long he lived there. I've never heard a non-Irish person call him an "Irish artist".

No idea what he'd say himself.

Let's not get into all that.......

Remember, I live in England, these sorts of conversations are a constant struggle....

But i'm still happy to think it was just about being annoyed about being on a ferry.

which reminds me -
it's a long standing dream of mine to hear a some headbanger band cover
Don't Pay The Ferryman by Chris De Burgh.
great tune but Chris' other songs are awful alright.

but unfortunately when metalers have covered No Limits by 2Unlimited or Rasputin by Boney M
it didn't come out nearly as well as it should have.

I can imagine some melodic power metal band doing this. It goes all Horslips guitar at @1:46
