I think my favourite record of all time is Aja by Steely Dan.

every single individual tracked instrument and vocal is genius
I have literally never heard a Steely Dan song I didn't hate every second of.

Isn't life and all its varieties wonderful?

Golden Discs in Cornelscourt, 1984. I was buying Purple Rain on vinyl. Two lads were looking at a Steely Dan LP [think it was Aja] and one asked the staff member "Are Steely Dan niggers?"

I didn't know Steely Dan's music at that point so I burst out laughing.

I bought a Karate Kid headband from that shop

but yeah, fucking hell

Also Lili, I think they're a band you either love or hate. I never got Neutral Milk Hotel myself. I've given them so many goes, but there's a vacuum there for me. Can't understand the love

Those top 500 lists make me realise how fucking white rock and roll or indie or whatever the fuck NME and Rolling Stone pedal really is. There are some undeniably great records in both lists but it seems like Non-white american/british artists don't exist but for some token entries. It really shows to my mind how these magazines and their journos purport to be open minded but really have the tastes of a 15 year old middle class white kid.

All true but making lists and believing in the power of rock and roll is a white, middle-class pass time anyway.

This reminds me of that thing from Slaughterhouse Five about how humans experience time as if they're laying on their back on a train looking through a pipe at the sky.
I'm probably mangling that, but Jesus.

Wait, this is a joke list, right?

What are your favourite albums of all time?

What are your favourite albums of all time?

I have absolutely no idea.

It would be different today than it would be tomorrow.

And even more so next week.

It wouldn't have the fucking Manic Street Preachers on top and then an endless list of identikit white boy indie bands after them.
