The thread wherein we all say somethng really contentious! (2 Viewers)

Life is just butterflies and spoons of honey and dancing little dances, and only by keeping a strict check on population numbers and reducing where necessary can we continue to enjoy its bountiful pleasures.

I have nothing contentious to say.Everything that comes outta me is unarguably fucking rock solid.

subjective

Absolutely not. Not everyone would agree, but actually there's no evidence in existence, other than people's belief, "relativity" that makes that statement subjective. That belief, that all things are equal, because some idiots happen to be... idiots... is a meaningless bit of non-evidence.

I have found found the first truly contentious thing on this thread! ;)

Not if you're a maggot.

To humans...

Well I never said anything about things being equal so I don't really know what you're saying here...

a majority consensus negates subjectivity?

To humans...
yes, well, rotten steak doesn't qualify as "food" for humans so if you want to say it's factually true that humans don't eat things that aren't food then fair enough but it's got nothing to do with taste except on the very basic level of what can and cannot be eaten.

Y'know, I is John, ignoring the fact the everything is really an illusion for the minute, Milan Panic is expressing something that all of us instinctively know in our hearts but that we can't justify with our brains

I think that it might be easier to understand if we thought about the function of the music - what's it FOR, like. Rebecca Black's tune is good for singing when dicking around with your friends. Shostakovitch is good at giving you profound feelings of connectedness to The Ineffable when you're stoned. And much harder to play, so there's more of a payoff when you get it right

Things are a lot clearer when you put "for" or "at" after "good" or "bad"

I don't think I've expressed myself very well in this post, but just try and imagine that what kind of sense I would be making if I was actually making sense. Ok? Well that's what I'm saying

Got me?

No he's not. There's nothing instinctive about any of this. It's all stuff we decide, don't be putting the blame on 'instinct' when it's something you do yourself. Nothing is an illusion dammit.

Yes. I believe it was Kierkegaard who talked about "subjective truths" and I, for one, agree with him. Basically the right truth for the right context. Like if Charlie Brooker wants to write a light-hearted piece where he states Rebecca Black is objectively shit and we can all agree with on that then that's fine but I wouldn't expect people at some club to decide, "you know what, i'd rather be dancing to Shostakovitch"....well actually i'd love people to do that but not in the way we're talking about here.

In conclusion, I refute MilanPanic's claim that taste can be not subjective as I feel this undermines the very definiton of taste, which requires subjective and personal input, and wholly endorse your proposal to talk about usage.

Anyway i'm still looking for a context where Keane are objectively good if somethingmanic would like to step in?

P.S. Pop Whore No1.; , welcome to my thesis.

Hooray!
I thought you were disagreeing with me for a minute there

I would love to expand on why (nearly) everything is an illusion, and why (nearly) everything being an illusion is actually beside the point but worth keeping sight of, and also explain to you why I think an understanding of instinct and animal behaviour is super-important when talking about more or less anything to do with people

... but my wife is inviting me to the kitchen for a gin and tonic. Another time amigo!

what just happened here?

Are Keane back in the charts?

This thread is a fucking mess.I like it.

Gets a bit studenty at points..but thats hardly surprising.
