Kilkenny Arts Festival New Music Night, 9th August, Set Theatre Kilkenny

Somadrone, Thread Pulls & Toby Kaar all play a new music night at this year’s Kilkenny Arts Festival on August 9th.

This year’s New Music Night in the Set showcases five very different home-grown acts.

Somadrone (aka Neil O Connor) explores an ever-widening musical palette featuring everything from a harp to moog synthesizers, while his new album, Depth of Field, mixes electronica with miniature symphonies.

Thread Pulls “produce a ruckus that most bands can only dream about” (Hot Press), while Adelaide-born Margie Lewis is a classically-trained violinist and jazz vocalist whose experiments with loops and beats are drawn together by her beautiful voice.

Cork’s Toby Kaar is fast winning fans with his “awesome” live shows (The Irish Times), mixing hip-hop, house and electronica, and festival regulars Geppetto return for the long-awaited launch of their first EP, coupled with a screening of an exciting new visual show directed by Paul Mahon.
