Is there anything worse than Muse? (1 Viewer)

Watching a Muse concert on Sky Arts atm. If you accept that Muse are shit, then, they are alright. Holy fuck those lyrics though.

God that classic seanc guy is a bit of character isn't he?

I saw them a couple of years ago. I can't slag them off, but I was bored. They were great when I was 14.

Are Muse that bad?
Other than that English Ever So Androgynous bit... they do have... well no. They aren't that great probably. They have some OK tunes! Ish.

Their main offense to me is appearing to be cool when they might not be. But the reality is none of us are actually cool.

I'm nervous to post. Because of the judgement.

They are not very good, widdly. But i dont hate them, despite all the ingredients being there.

They are a weird band.

Havent followed anything since the 3rd album and have never thought about going to see them play.

They insist upon themselves.

No fault of Muse, but I remember being in someones gaff late one night and she said "Oh you like Radiohead, so you must like Muse. They're basically the same". That might be what killed it for me.

Muse are to whatever-it-is-I-like to what UB40 are to reggae.

To be fair, I'd not heard of Muse for about 15 years.

I'm mainly impressed they're still a thing.

When I saw them they got the singer from AC/DC up on stage to do a rendition of Back in Black. That was, of course, excellent. The rest of the show.....meh. It's weird, if I had seen that same show as a youngling it might have been the best show I'd ever seen. Yet as an adult, for all their evident skill and ability and heart, I just found it a bit annoying. That's music for ya.

that first album wasn't bad.

My hatred of Muse kind of got conflated with my hatred of a lot of other things around the same time, so it was probably somewhat irrational.

Muse don't have enough about them to warrant hating them. They are 'meh' at worst.

I saw them twice when the second album came out, once at Witnness (great fun) and once at Dublin Castle (grand to awful). The Hives supported the second time and were clearly a million times better.

There's a point where they became more of karaoke type deal. Like they started doing the lidl versions of pop classics. They've the perfect audience for that too - people who see a band with several number one albums and call them alternative. I do think there is some great stuff in the first few records. I'd never seek it out, I kinda manifests already

Here they are doing some hybrid of 'give a little respect' and 'whole again' for people who are slightly curious about vaping

I saw them supporting elastica in the TBMC in 2000

I think they're a really good live band and the singer is an excellent musician

But musically it's too just OOT, too bombastic

in conclusion: there's a lot worse than muse

I'm just going quote myself from 2007.
Actually I don't mind the bombast now.

Imagine going to the Gaeltatcht for the summer and realising that you had to share a house with Muse and the Manics.
Not gonna lie lads, MDR's book is class but he couldn't disguise this sneery tone appearing now and then in it.

Anyway, Muse still have a few decent tracks/riffs. Muscle Museum is still a cool riff, Uno is a good groove, most of their second album is listenable and the world needed that kind of guitar riffing in the charts at the time, i'm never gonna go and seek out a new muse album or anything but for a brief moment they were refreshing.
