First ever gig (1 Viewer)

My first gig was Faith No More and L7 in the Point. First local bands I saw were Porn, Bambi, Mexican Pets and one other band on O Connel street somewhere. Actually I think the other band was Cheapskate. I can't remember.

apart from local shitty gigs at the sports centre...

my first was the waterboys at the top hat dun laoghaire, new years eve 1988

the second one - still one of the most impressive gigs i've seen - was the cure at the rds in 1989

I was at that. Had an asthma attack up the front and kept falling over whenever the crowd moved before I could get out. Was covered in bruises for a week after.

Legitimately thought I was going to die at one point as I was unable to get back up and was taking a bit of an unintentional shoeing before people dragged me back up.

That was my first gig too, remember being squished to bits, was locked on a flaggen so was loving it , lost an addidas samba in the crowd at the start of the gig aswell, going round with one shoe on for the rest. The point was mental, someone died soon after that gig at a smashing pumpkins gig. Also getting the Guinness boat up from tara st station to it for a quid or something ridic.

I was at the opening gig of that tour - at the Hillgrove Hotel in Dingle. Myself and my friend drank a bottle of vodka beforehand and we danced like loons.

I smoked my first ever joint on the way out of that gig. Three weeks earlier it had been the venue for R.E.M. - which was AMAZING.

Nik Kershaw & the Krew. National Stadium July 1983.
So good that I went to see 'em again in January '84.

According to the "NIK KERSHAW OFFICIAL FAN CLUB NEWSLETTER NUMBER 1" reproduced here - it was 1984. I think you're getting old, old.

[EDIT:-] But you had great musical taste in the 80's, obviously.

Still probably the best gig ever.

I didn't get to many when I was in school so the ones I managed to attend stand out.

After The Smiths it was
Suzanne Vega. National Stadium. December 1986.

Jesus And Mary Chain. SFX. September 1987. Pretty sure The Motorcycle Boy supported.

Caught a few in Waterford in those years - Waterboys, Housemartins, A House.

Wedding Present in McGonagles ruled. As did The House Of Love and Happy Mondays+The Shamen in 1989. The latter was just after I finished the Leaving mocks.

AHAHAHAHAA holy shit Predator.... I think i still have their demo somewhere. jesus.

My friend insisted that there was questionable stainage on their spandex but the 'Maiden covers sounded good to me... dandruff everywhere... good times!
