Popical Islanders Yeh Deadlies release their debut album ‘The First Book Of Lessons’ on April 8th, with a launch gig in Shebeen Chic on April 1st.
Yeh Deadlies (Annie, Padraig, Jonny Fun and Dave Green) are founding members of Dublin’s Popical Island collective. The band has released 3 EPs and a 7″ single to date, as well as various tracks to compilations including 2010’s Popical Island #1 and A Hard Old Station: Christmas With The Popical Island Showband.
Yeh Deadlies most recent release, The Dead Living EP, was named one of the best of the year by SwearI’mNotPaul blog and one of the year’s top 10 free downloads by Nialler9 in the Irish Independent. The band’s re-released Snow Joke EP (2009) was named on Harmless Noise blog amongst the best releases of 2010. The band were mooted in State.ie ‘s “Faces of 2011” and Entertainment.ie ‘s “Promise of 2011” features. A recent article in Nylon Magazine named Yeh Deadlies among the highlights of “the emerald underground” with the likes of Adebisi Shank, Squarehead and Patrick Kelleher.
The band have been privileged to share a bill with such luminaries as Harlem, Cowtown, Nodzzz, The Mantles, Oh No, Oh My, Groom and So Cow. They have also undertaken a mini-tour of the UK in February this year with their Popical cohorts.
Annie and Padraig also make music with Ian and Ruan from Squarehead as Tieranniesaur, whose song Sketch! , described by newswhip.ie as “the best song written by woman or man on the planet this year”, was named one the best songs of 2010 on Nialler9’s blog.
