The Plinth Tapes is a coastal collaboration, from the southern coast of England to the western shores of Ireland. The original source material was recorded in Dorset by Plinth and mailed to Loner Deluxe for collaging and beat generation. In redesigning the tunes, making new music from previously existing tracks, overdubbing new instruments and adding loops and found sounds, Loner Deluxe recast the fragments. Folkish instrumentalities are beaten up and spaced out – maybe you could call it faketronica. Although (re)created in the world of binary The Plinth Tapes retain an organic flavour: melodic, minimal and warm.
Mirakil Whip have delivered a record which brims with inventive melodies while never sacrificing their experimental edge. Whether wielding mandolin and vintage synth's, guitar, accordion and groovebox the duo infuse their tunes with a warmth all too often absent in these digital days. This electro-convulsive guitar groove unit weave electronics, voices and a rainbow of acoustic instrumentation with militaristic machine beats, epic swells of reverberating guitar and analogue drones.
Irelands premier free-folk collective have delivered an e.p. which takes in pastoral psychedelic grooves, free improv, bijou songform and stellar acappella spell-weaving. United Bible Studies are adept at conjuring spirits and speaking in voices and the cover image of this release features a Mayan astronaut, an apt icon for these sonic explorers.
