as regards zappa, i've heard a bit of his stuff on a mix tape someone made for me, where d'ya think would be a good place to start?
there's a cheapish box called Threesome No 1 [has Freak Out + Absolutely Free + We're Only In It For The Money] which is a good starting point I think

right now I'm listening to

Curve: The Way Of Curve 1990 - 2004: new retrospective, has I Feel Love but not enough early stuff

this week it's been

Motorbass - Pansoul
I:Cube - Picnic Attack
Autechre - Chiastic Slide
Thin Lizzy - Johnny The Fox
The Fall - This Nation's Saving Grace
Beck - Mutations
Method Man - Tical
Pere Ubu - Datapanik In The Year Zero
The Congos - The Heart Of The Congos
Morrissey - You Are The Quarry

bingo bango, sugar in the gastank. from what i've heard of seven swans it not as good as michigan. sufjan stevens is a good songwriter and a very interesting musician with all the piano riffs and horns and shit like vibraphones, but his songs don't touch elliott smiths. whoever was asking about albums -get roman candle, self-titled, either/or, xo and figure 8. that'll be all of them then. and if you're still hungry, check out mic city sons by heatmiser...

as for me: a lot of built to spill and wilco.

i'm not all that familiar with early elliot smith. if it sounds like that, i should get some. recommend me an album there, missus.
Either/Or is fantastic, XO is very good too, both are way better that Seven Swans, there's one or two nice tunes on it but i've not had any urges to listen to it on a regular basis. In a similar vein Great Lake Swimmers by Great Lake Swimmers is really lovely.
