The Real IRA has warned it plans to carry out attacks on mainland Britain.
A spokesman for the dissident terrorist group, which claimed responsibility for killing two British soldiers last month, said it will resume such violence 'when it becomes opportune'.
High-profile targets will be sought but there will be no attacks on a daily basis, he said.
A warning was also issued to the young, mainly Catholic recruits of the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), who were told they could be killed if they don't leave the force.
'We're looking for high-profile targets, though we'll obviously take advantage when other targets present themselves,' the spokesman said.
'The days of a campaign involving military operations every day or every few days, are over.'
The threats came before a dissident Irish republican issued a public warning to those who disobey the Real IRA.
As the masked man made a statement at Creggan cemetery in Londonderry, youths in tracksuits and balaclavas walked brazenly around carrying petrol bombs in their hands.
The statement was the organisation's first public show since it shot dead Sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, and Patrick Azimkar, 21, at the gates of Massereene barracks in Antrim while taking delivery of pizzas.
Two days after the soldiers were gunned down the Continuity IRA, another splinter group, admitted responsibility for shooting police officer Stephen Carroll, 48, while he was on duty in Craigavon, Co Armagh.
The killings have sparked fears troubles could return to Northern Ireland 12 years after the IRA ceasefire in 1997 and the Good Friday Agreement the year after.

'Denis Donaldson was a traitor and the leadership of the Provisional movement, under guidance from the British Government, made provision for Donaldson to escape republican justice,' he said.
