What do these turf cutters really want? (1 Viewer)

It's just so rare for a Buzzard to be found living so far south. There are very few in Ireland to start with... we were heartbroken when we found it. When we hadn't seen it for a while we'd hoped it had move on rather than been shot.

We've no idea where the deer came from or how they managed to get into the forest (which is fenced all round). The best guess is that they climbed over the styles! Nature is amazing. Provide a habitat and animals, birds and insects will magically appear to inhabit it.

buzzards seem to be much more common now; there's a few to be seen around where herself grew up (near ashbourne), as well as some barn owls, one of which scared the bejaysus out of me when it flew in front of the car a couple of months ago.
barn owls are becoming very rare, unfortunately. they're affected by rat poison on tainted carrion.

you're lucky the trees are old enough to overtop the deer now, they're the divil for eating saplings.

I remember bagging turf as a kid on what seemed like the hottest summer days ever made. We were paid in sweets. At least we got paid, I don't think our country cousins ever were. I remember the sweets clearer.
