Wave Forza feat Veronica Vasicka [Minimal Wave, NY]

Following the Forza Natale celebrazione, Simonetti e Crosserini took to American Airlines for a Xmas spent skiing in Aspen Colorado, Courmayeur in the Valle d'Aosta is so last year dahlink,. Stopping off in New York to pick up the latest Moncler, Bogner & Descent skiwear for the slopes, this convoluted plot-narrative demands they ran into their Northern European cousins, Simon le Con und Stefan Krause on 5th Avenue. Following the inevitable night on the New York tiles, they ended up in an East Village basement club grooving to the raw, danceable industrial electronic cold wave mutant house underground techno sounds of the vixen-esque Veronica Vasicka.

While Simonetti & Crosserini continued on to the mid-western slopes, Le Con und Krause fixed a February rendezvous with Ms Vasicka on the edge of Europe. Despite the Gout de Diamants flowing freely, they were unable to agree on Feb 14th as the date but ultimately zey did settled on Februar 7 im Das Haus der Odessa. Too cold for the Terrazza, the heaters will be on ze middle floor - it will koze like ze DJ! Not only ze Italians can make ze ladies laugh!

Not only a DJ par-wunderbar, Veronica Vasicka ist ein fotografier, musiker, und founder of the epic record label and on-line musik resource Minimal Wave. As one of ze founding members of East Village Radio, she managed the station during its pirate days and began collecting all of ze obscure and long forgotten platten that fell somewhere between the genres. Not knowing what to classify these bands as, she coined the genre Minimal Wave and set up the website minimalwave.com as an online resource to share her finds with the rest of the world. Responsible for re-releasing such Forza sledgehammers as Oppenheimer Analysis’ ‘The Devil’s Dancers’, Sudeten Creche ‘Are Kisses out of Fashion’, Deux ‘Game & Performance’ und viele viele mehr, Minimal Wave brings ze maximal to the Tanzfläche. In addition to running Minimal Wave, Veronica launched the Cititrax label as way to expose der newer wave synth-based acts. Wunderbar!

Veronica has been featured in various notable publications such as The New York Times, Interview Magazine, Dazed & Confused, I.D. Magazine, Vice, Electronic, Revel In New York, New York Magazine, and Time Out New York. Not yet, Image magazine though, as Simonetti & Crosserini constantly reminded her at the East Village club that fateful night. Forza!

Auch spinning this evening is Darren McCreesh, curator of the awesome ‘Strange Passion- Explorations in Irish Post Punk, DIY and Electronic Music 1980-83‘ compilation released on Finders Keepers. Described by Pitchfork as carrying ‘an uncommon weight, sounding less like a footnote and more like a series of essential transmissions from a set of socially and politically disenfranchised musicians.’ this release shone a light on a sound most were not aware existed in Ireland at this point. Tieing the narrative together as he is wont to do, shall be Forza’s Simon le Con. Saying hello and waving goodbye, it will be a soft sell of synth, cold wave, darktalo & electro-nix plattenspielers that matter zwischen Darren und Veronica.

Our cinemagraphic presentation we have the desolate Cold War apocalyptic vision that is ‘Threads’. Set in Sheffield, a city that has provided more than its fair share to the new wave musical landscape, Threads tells the bleak tale of all out nuclear apocalypse. Shot in a hyper realistic docudrama style it shows the harrowing details of the characters' struggle to survive the attacks is dramatically depicted. The balance of the story details the fate of each family as the characters face the medical, economic, social and environmental consequences of nuclear war. One such character is Shadwell United top boy, Reece Dinsdale of ID fame. Watch in horror as the reality of cold war politics come home to roost!

So join us in Odessa for for the very finest in synth, cold wave and cold war entertainment. Limited early bird advance tickets are available now for the friendly ‘84 Bramhall Lane turnstile price of €10. Forza!
